Editorial Blast

What's new in the Detroit Artists Workshop? We have a new mission: community empowerment through cultural experience, throughout the entire Detroit area. In these pages, and wherever we find an opportunity, we're serving notice that all cynical and discouraging thoughts stop here! We live in a positive vibe zone and the most acceptable response is, "Of course! I believe in your mission! I'm committed to that!"

    • Imagine what this region would be like if all the dinosaurs of the past were kicked out for good and the surrounding community would be an attractive place to live. It's not easy and it takes effort but it can be done.
    • Suppose we brought back the Detroit golden age, when (in 1955) there was a jazz cultural membership of 5,000 strong suppose we brought back the dream (in 1962) of making Detroit a jazz mecca, attracting World Olympics and other global activities; it still can be done.
    • Suppose we produced something in Detroit besides autos, so unique and attractive that the whole world would stand up and take notice; Motown did it and it still can be done.

Everything that was true forty or fifty years ago is still relevant today and what are we doing about it? We're struggling to make our mission happen and we need your help. We need a few good women and men who can meet and plan with us, to produce the next cultural event, to get people to think, "We can do this, too!" Granted, we're not alone and there's dedicated individuals out there, committed to bringing about change; collaboration is in the air...

How about you and what do you have to offer?

Yours,
The Detroit Artists Workshop
Leni Sinclair, President
